✒️📚🎧Book Review : Simply More by Cynthia Erivo ✨️🧹

    📝 Book Details :

    • Title : Simply More (A Book for Anyone Who Has Been Told They’re Too Much)
    • Author : Cynthia Erivo
    • Genre : Memoir, Celebrity Memoir, Non-Fiction, Self Help
    • Age Range : Adult
    • Number of Pages : 190
    • Published Date : 20 November 2025

    🌟 My Rating : 5/5

    🔸️ Intro/Background 🎧📖 :

This was my first experience with immersive reading wherein you listen to the Audiobook while following the text in the actual book. I tried this way mostly because I didn’t want to zone out. Now I understand why it’s effective/enjoyable and has become so popular these days. Also I’m not someone who usually reads memoirs and I feel even less interested when it comes to celebrity memoirs BUT when I saw Cynthia Erivo has come up with her memoir I just couldn’t wait to read it! She’s truly one of the few celebrities I feel are worth getting to know about. I guess this is because contrary to the dramatic or temperamental side of celebrities we often see she embodies more of a hardworking and clear headed artist persona who values human experience above everything else.

So I instinctively knew that she was not someone to structure this from the high-headedness of becoming a celebrity but instead from the perspective of someone who genuinely wants to share her experiences and guide others who may be struggling or need to hear it without any filters.

    ✒️📚 Detailed Review (Spoiler-Free) :

I may have been fangirling just a bit when I went into it but it quickly escalated from just admiration for her publicly-known persona to something more. In this book, Cynthia picks a topic she wishes to talk about and then dives into her experiences on it, her lessons in life etc those type of things. I’m glad we don’t simply go about the details of her life from childhood to the stage she’s currently at which would’ve felt like an autobiography.

While I do adore her in general, I loved how she brings a fresh perspective to things and tries to motivate us while making some solid points using her own experiences as examples. After a point I felt she’s a gifted writer too. There’s never even a hint of boasting even when credit is due nor does she avoid admitting her own faults or shortcomings where it’s needed. It’s clear from this book that she’s a very authentic person or has rather nurtured that quality with care (never letting the fame get to her) and she’s perhaps even more wise than she let’s on in these incidents/reflections. I especially enjoyed the middle 25% to 75% a lot – it was very motivating in a gentle, reflecting manner.

Also my love for Wicked/Cynthia x Ariana and the rest of the team behind it is not hidden so I especially loved the insights she gives into her time working on that project. Another incident that sticks out or resonates is about her time studying at RADA.

    👉 Conclusion :

Throughout, this book keeps that inspiring tone never getting boring even for a bit. It also never feels like a lecture quite the contrary infact. The writing is very accessible. Overall this book is very much like Cynthia utterly charming in it’s execution!

    📌 Tip :

Even if you don’t know about her yet (which is highly unlikely) I still recommend researching about who she is and her work as a world-renowned singer, artist and an actor because who knows after doing so you may feel compelled to go checkout her work or read this book afterwards!

    💯✅️📚 Recommend to :

    • Memoir Lovers OR Celebrity Memoirs Readers OR even Nonfiction Self Help Readers
    • Anybody in general looking for inspiring and motivating experiences and anecdotes coming from a highly accomplished but down to earth celebrity, one who has not had it easy at all.

    ✒️ Spoiler-Free Thoughts :

It’s very Fast-paced and even if you don’t care for the science stuff you’ll get sucked into this story very quickly. The main selling point is the mystery which unfolds as the story constantly jumps between the past and present timelines. The events occurring in the present start with our MC trying to figure out where he is and why/how exactly did he get there in the first place? The mission in the title becomes apparent. Alien contact and the mystery/suspense will keep you engaged though it’s mostly about adventure and comradeship.

I could predict the ending because there were hints throughout the story about what our MC values afterall. His core values and what’s uniquely important to him is apparent. He cares about meaning, personal purpose and the mundane/brainstorming. So his personal ARC made actual sense and it ended on a good note. I also liked the side characters.

🎧 Praise for the Audiobook :

The Narrator has done fantastic voices for all the characters using exceptional voice modulation and even changes pitch/speed/tone as required to make you feel what the MC is feeling in the uncanny atmosphere of space as various events unfold around him.

    📝Personal Outlook on the Sci-Fi portion :

I really enjoyed the space research & the core science stuff too and how these streams of study intertwine on this mission. I’m actually a space and science buff so it really had me intrigued all along. Usually a scifi book is just a bunch of science stuff and concepts thrown in to support the narrative but here bonus points to Andy Weir for all the thorough research and logical explanations.

    🚀👉📖 Advice Before Reading :

I highly suggest Immersive Reading i.e. Listening to this on Audio while following the Written text in the book (till the 30% mark) because the scientific stuff is heavy in the initial chapters.

⚠️Heads-up/Warning: If you’re thinking of going for either of reading/listening without using the full immersive experience of reading➕️listening uptil the 30% mark you are likely to get bored/zoned out or both and may slump.

So if you truly want to get the hang of all the scientific worldbuilding even if you’re not a science person then follow my advice above, you’ll actually enjoy learning about science this way. Post the 30% mark go fully audio because after that the science is only high-level and continuing to read more of that text whilst listening will actually slowdown/exhaust you. Trust by this point you’ll have gotten the hang of the story already.

    📖📚✅️ Recommend to :

Adventure and Fantasy/Scifi Lovers OR Anybody in general who wants to have a good time and likes being moved by a beautiful story.

    🍿🎬 ~ Movie Review (TBA) ~

I’ll be heading to a nearby theatre very soon. So expect this space to be updated ASAP. Super-excited to see this on screen especially with Ryan Gosling in the lead.

    📝 Book Details :

    • Title : Agnes Aubert’s Mystical Cat Shelter
    • Author : Heather Fawcett
    • Genre : Cozy Fantasy
    • Age Range : Adult but can be read by all ages even YA or Elderly

    • Published Date : 17 February 2026

    🌟 My Rating : 4/5

~ NetGalley ARC Review below ~

    ✒️Review ( Spoiler-Free ) :

Going into Agnes Aubert’s Mystical Cat Shelter, I didn’t have big expectations. I simply knew I was in the mood for something dependable and gentle—the kind of fantasy feeling Classics used to give, where you could just exist in the world without the story constantly trying to impress you.

At first, the pacing felt slow. But as the chapters progressed, I realized that Heather Fawcett was deliberately building something very specific. The human background, the magical ecosystem, the personalities and predicaments of the cats—every small detail gradually forms a world that feels lived-in rather than designed for spectacle.

What impressed me most is that the book prioritizes fantasy and atmosphere first, and tropes second. It never felt like it was trying to inject banter, romance, or high stakes for the sake of going with the trends. Instead, it trusts that the reader will settle into the charm and simply enjoy spending time there. That restraint gives the story a rare calmness.

Reading it felt less like chasing a plot/mechanics and more like stepping into a gentle and beautiful space. In a time where everything—work, hobbies, even relaxation—can feel optimized or performative, this story quietly offers the opposite. It invites you to drop the façade of productivity and just be present inside its world for a while. AND honestly sometimes we deserve this kind of hug-in-a-book-form!! 🩷

And then the story surprised me.

The time-travel elements, particularly the scenes involving Havelock and Robin, hit me in a way I genuinely didn’t see coming. The emotional sensitivity of those moments was handled so well and was unexpectedly moving in a way that I even cried. What began as a calm, cozy fantasy suddenly carried a depth of feeling that lingered long after I finished the final pages.

Those moments reminded me of the emotional resonance found in Before the Coffee Gets Cold, where time travel becomes less about mechanics and more about memory, connection, and the fragile nature of moments we wish we could revisit.

While I do think the book could have been slightly tighter in terms of editing and overall polish, the emotional impact and the unique atmosphere ultimately made it a memorable reading experience.

    🪞Reflection

This experience reminded me why cozy fantasy works when it’s done well. It doesn’t demand emotional labor from the reader. It doesn’t try to prove or overwhelm. Instead it focuses on something simpler: the quiet joy of being somewhere else for a little while.

Another aspect I appreciated was the dynamic between the FMC and MMCs Havelock/Robin. Neither character feels like they are performing a role or trying to be something they’re not. They simply exist as themselves and in their own ways both feel naturally good for the main character. That authenticity makes their presence feel comforting rather than dramatic.

Another quite strength of the novel is how inter-generational the story feels. With characters of different ages and perspectives, it’s the kind of gentle fantasy that can resonate with teenagers, adults, and older readers alike. Stories like this remind us that wonder, care, curiosity, and kindness are experiences that belong to every stage of life.

The more I reflected on the book after finishing it, the more I appreciated how intentional the craft feels. Nothing about the tone seems accidental. The calm pacing, the seasonal atmosphere, the emotional restraint—all of it works together to create a story that feels almost like a quiet moment of self-care.

In many ways, reading it felt similar to enjoying a peaceful spring afternoon: nothing intense is demanded of you, yet the experience quietly stays with you.

Even though I haven’t yet read Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries Series by her, this novel has already convinced me that Heather Fawcett is one of the most promising fantasy authors I’ll be following closely.

Some books you finish, and some books finish you. This one quietly managed to do both.

✒️📚 Book Review: A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E Schwab (Book 1 in Shades of Magic Series)

    📝 Book Details :

    • Title : A Darker Shade of Magic ( Shades of Magic #1)
    • Author : V.E Schwab
    • Genre : Action/Adventure Fantasy
    • Age Range : Adult or YA
    • Number of Pages : 400
    • Published Date : 24 February 2015

    ⭐️ My Rating : 4/5

    ✒️Review ( Spoiler-Free ) :

This shines most in it’s world building & philosophy of magic—where colors, a new language, smells, blood & elemental magic are woven into the world with almost academic precision. V.E.Schwab treats magic as lived-in & intellectual not just a tool and this gives the story an almost dark-academia like literary edge. Instead of chasing typical fantasy trends it trusts what it’s doing to build a truly unique system. The magic itself is a character making it a timeless piece of literature.

However the story remains predictable & the action scenes towards the last 20% got repetitive & clunky losing a bit of the warmth & intimacy that made the earlier storytelling so compelling. Was expecting “at the edge-of-your-seat” nailbiting showdown with the antagonists at the end but it felt like we are just trying to get over with everything quickly.

As a series opener it shifts into setup mode by the end but the foundation it builds is strong, intelligent and promises some potential.

    ❗️Issues/Misses :

TRYING TO PLAY SAFE, YA ADJACENT FEEL.

The Talisman & Black London’s magic are handled consistently within the story’s rules, no doubt the ending made sense but I found myself wishing for a more unpredictable interaction where the black magic faces challenges in manifesting at its peak Black London level of threat because theoretically it was taking a powerful vessel in the form of an Antari but the outcome could have been shown as changeable as this was probably the 1st time it took an Antari that too a morally good protagonist. This would have added a layer of intrigue suggesting that while in theory the darkness was known to fully take over it’s host/light but in reality it isn’t as straightforward. I wanted to see how magic changes it’s course depending on the person or entity it channels through. Such an encounter could have created a series-level threat showing how Black London’s chaos manifests in unforeseen ways and interacts with Kell’s unique essence without compromising his heroism. This tension would have amplified the stakes and highlighted the depth of the magic system.

~ Netgalley ARC Review below ~

    ✒️Review ( Spoiler-Free ) :

What really worked for me was the unhinged unraveling of the female lead. Watching Debbie slowly lose control was chaotic, bingeable, and oddly fun—it has that irresistible train-wreck energy where you can’t look away. It ended up being a guilty pleasure where I laughed out loud at some chapters in the first half. The first half is fast-paced and compulsively readable. In the second half, the tone shifts and the story becomes more serious, but it never feels random or sloppy. Instead, it feels intentional, well thought out, and well written, giving the chaos some weight. There were multiple twists and jawdropping moments reserved for the end!Overall, this was an engaging domestic thriller that balances entertainment with substance.

    1. Revenge Agenda

    2. Advice Column chaos

    3. “Good for Her” / Female Rage & Payback
